Weekly Riff from The Sound and The Story - Alter Bridge - "Cry of Achilles"

We've recently launched our new 'Detroit Electric' collection, which not only hearkens back to our roots in the Motor City, but also ties in with the namesake band of one of our O.G. "The Sound & The Story" artists: Mark Tremonti and Alter Bridge.

If you didn't know, the name Alter Bridge was a metaphor representing change and an uncertain new direction for Mark Tremonti and his band. As a child, Mark was not allowed to cross this bridge, as it lead to a precarious area and the unknown. This otherwise ordinary Detroit bridge near Mark’s childhood home is now immortalized forever with the band’s critically-acclaimed 6 albums and legions of fans world-wide.

In this edition of the FRET12 'Weekly Riff', Alter Bridge's very own Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti sit down to do an entire video playthrough of the 2013 song “Cry of Achilles”.

Myles then teaches one of the hardest riffs to execute off the album Fortress. He also shares some of the challenges the band faced while recording and how they overcame some technical difficulties to nail this epic intro.

Mark and Myles joined us in our Chicago studio to teach this song in full on their FRET12 DVD Documentary that details the writing, recording, songs and stories of "Fortress". If you'd like to see them teach this song, plus the rest of the record, make sure to check out this fan-favorite DVD, now available for download to your library on FRET12.com
